For long-span transmission exceeding 200 km, span-loss compensation using bidirectionally pumped distributed Raman amplification is effective. Conventionally, to achieve high gain in forward pumping, a second-order pumping scheme using broadband incoherent pump light (iPUMP) as the first-order pump has been employed. However, the resulting increase in fiber input power has been a challenge. In this paper, we report C+L-band 60-channel, 100-GBd DP-16QAM transmission over a 201.6-km single-span SSMF without using second-order pumping, achieved by applying power-scaled incoherent forward pump light generated using lumped Raman amplification.
