[B-15-41]Propagation Characteristics of the VHF-Band DR-IoT System in Vegetation Environments

The base station placement design for DR-IoT (Diversified-Range IoT) systems, which utilize the V-High band (207.5–222 MHz) for disaster response applications, requires highly accurate predictions of radio propagation characteristics in target areas. Previous studies have shown that integrating artificial structure (building) data into the ITM (Irregular Terrain Model), a prediction method capable of reflecting complex terrain variations, improves the estimation accuracy of propagation loss in urban environments. However, existing methods are limited to considering building information, while in actual environments, the impact of radio wave attenuation due to vegetation is expected to be significant. In this paper, we quantitatively investigate and evaluate the existence and extent of the impact of vegetation on propagation characteristics.
