With the increasing number of sensors and monitoring devices in facilities such as buildings and factories, there is a growing demand for wide-area and stable wireless communication environments. However, indoor communication quality can be degraded by shielding and reflection caused by walls, floors, and equipment. In addition, there are many locations where installing additional access points or laying communication cables is difficult, making it necessary to develop methods for expanding communication coverage by utilizing existing infrastructure. Therefore, this study focuses on a method that uses existing metal pipes installed inside buildings as radio wave propagation paths. Although radio waves are expected to propagate along the inside of metal pipes, propagation loss and communication quality may vary depending on the pipe diameter. Thus, evaluating communication performance while considering the pipe diameter is an important issue. In this study, we focus on a 150-mm-diameter metal pipe as an example of pipe diameters used in actual facilities, and aim to evaluate wireless communication performance using metal pipes by measuring received signal strength and communication quality.
