Autonomous mobile units, such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and food delivery robots, emit radio noise which can degrade the quality of wireless communications performed in the units themselves or their surroundings. In particular, when a large number of these units operate in an area, the aggregation of radio noise can occur, potentially leading to unit malfunctions or operational service failures. The authors are conducting R&D on technologies to enable the stable operation of autonomous mobile units in environments where a large number of such units operate in close proximity. They have measured radio noise emitted in the Sub-1 GHz band by devices such as mini-PCs, which can be mounted on autonomous mobile units, and have confirmed through experiments that certain mini PCs cause significant quality degradation in nearby IEEE 802.11ah (IEEE 802.11 S1G) communications. Recently, the authors conducted a simulation-based evaluation of the IEEE 802.11ah frame error rate (FER) characteristics using waveforms of the measured radio noise emitted from a mini PC to evaluate the impact of radio noise in detail. This paper describes the procedure for acquiring the radio noise waveforms used in the evaluation and their characteristics.
