[B-17-13]Population Density Characteristics of a Large-scale time slot control scheme of CSMA/CA for Exposed Node Problem in Congested WBAN Environments

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) connect IoT devices on or inside the human body. In dense WBAN environments, CSMA/CA suffers from the exposed terminal problem, where some terminals repeatedly acquire transmission opportunities, reducing fairness. Although human body shadowing at 60 GHz lowers interference, fairness improvement remains insufficiently studied.
This paper proposes a CSMA/CA based large scale time slot control scheme. The communication period is divided into Tall, where all terminals communicate, and Tsuspend, where selected terminals temporarily stop transmission. During Tall, terminals with normalized waiting times below a threshold Tw are identified as occupying excessive transmission opportunities. These terminals suspend transmission during Tsuspend, allowing other terminals to access the channel more frequently. Control is performed using beacon-based synchronization and threshold information.
Simulation results show improved fairness. The normalized throughput at CDF 0.1 increased by 3.8–5.7 times compared with the conventional scheme, demonstrating effective mitigation of the exposed terminal problem in dense WBAN environments.
