[B-1B-07]A study on the number of phased array elements and control accuracy for null formation

To prevent deauthentication attacks on Wi-Fi access points, a defense method using a phased array to form a null toward the attacker and physically block the wireless link has been proposed. However, a 3-element prototype sometimes failed to form the null accurately. This was because individual differences among phase shifters made achieving 10-bit phase control accuracy difficult.This study proposes reducing the required phase control bits by increasing the number of antenna elements. We calculated the relationship between control bits and the coverable rate (the angular range for generating a null over 360 degrees). For 3- and 4-element arrays, at least 6 bits (2.8° accuracy) were needed for full coverage. However, increasing the elements improved the coverable rate at the same bit count. Notably, with 6 elements, the required control bits for full coverage dropped to 3.These results show that increasing antenna elements relaxes the required phase control accuracy, facilitating practical device implementation. Future work includes building a prototype based on this method for empirical measurements.
