In antennas used in automotive radar and other applications, metal fasteners are used to secure the substrate and radome to the housing for installation. To reduce the radar cross-section (RCS) of the antenna in such cases, it is crucial to design the RCS to be low not only for the antenna aperture but also for the mounting structure. The authors have previously investigated low-RCS spiral antennas with cavities that take such mounting structures into consideration. This paper reports the results of a prototype of the proposed low-RCS spiral antenna with a cavity and its evaluation through measurement.
