In recent years, security systems using millimeter-wave radar have attracted considerable attention. The most straightforward approach to improving the angular resolution of array radar is to increase the aperture size by increasing the number of antenna elements. However, this approach leads to disadvantages such as higher system cost and larger antenna size. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) processing has also been proposed to improve angular resolution; however, it requires a long observation time due to mechanical scanning.
To address these issues, the authors have proposed KR (Khatri–Rao) product virtual array processing, which virtually enlarges the aperture through KR-product-based signal processing. However, this method is effective only when the received signals are uncorrelated or weakly correlated. When highly correlated signals are received, spurious peaks caused by signal correlation appear in the reconstructed image.
In this paper, simulations demonstrate that spurious peaks can be suppressed by combining correlation suppression using target motion with two tilted Minimum Redundancy Array (MRA) radars.
