In recent industrial environments, such as factories, worker terminals (e.g., smart glasses) capture video and audio data and transmit them to servers, where task support is provided based on the received information. However, preprocessing operations at terminals (e.g., compression and region-of-interest extraction) and communication delays in wireless networks often prevent data from arriving within required deadlines, making real-time support difficult. To address this issue, the proposed method determines preprocessing strategies by jointly considering preprocessing time and transmission time under server requirements and current network conditions. Specifically, multiple preprocessing candidates are evaluated by estimating total delivery time, which consists of processing time and communication time. Among candidates that satisfy server-side constraints and deadline requirements, the optimal preprocessing method is selected. Unlike conventional approaches that only adapt bitrate based on network conditions, the proposed method dynamically adjusts both preprocessing content and functional allocation between the terminal and the server. This enables the application of diverse preprocessing techniques, including feature extraction, while achieving both deadline-aware delivery and conformance to server requirements.
