[C-15-13]Surface-Area-Based Determination of the APD Averaging Area on Curved Voxel Models

Absorbed Power Density (APD), the metric for localized electromagnetic exposure above 6 GHz, is evaluated by averaging over a specified area. However, methods for determining the averaging region on curved voxel models remain insufficiently studied. This paper proposes a surface-area-based approach and validates two estimation methods using spherical models. The face-count weighting method retained a systematic error of approximately −3.7% even at high resolutions, with a maximum averaging-area error of +6.17%. In contrast, the mesh method, which approximates curved surfaces with triangular meshes, kept errors within ±1.3% under all conditions and within ±0.5% at 0.5 mm resolution. Since the mesh method eliminates orientation- and curvature-dependent bias, residual errors decrease as resolution improves. These results confirm the effectiveness of the mesh method for APD averaging area determination on curved surfaces. Future work includes application to anatomical human body models.
