Assuming an optical pulse is irradiated onto a multilayer biological sample, signal light singly reflected from each layer and multiple scattering light repeatedly reflected between the layers are generated. In imaging using light time-of-flight measurement, this multiple scattering light acts as background noise that degrades image contrast. To eliminate this background noise, we have developed a signal light identification method. In this paper, we investigate the design conditions for filtering to perform optical pulse propagation direction separation, which is utilized in the signal light identification method.
