We report detection of sodium acetate by a PLC-MZI sensor decorated with olfactory receptor OR51E2. Since the phase shift in MZI sensor is proportional to the detector length, the increase of the detector length improves higher sensitivity. PLC with low propagation loss is suitable for higher sensitivity by increasing the detector length. We obtained π phase shift in PLC-MZI sensor with the detector length of 100 mm decorated with OR51E2 by injection of 0.5 x 10^(-3) mol/L sodium acetate solution, which is 5 times larger than previously reported Si MZI with the detector length of 1.4 mm. Based on the obtained phase shift and mode simulations, local refractive index shift on the waveguide surface is estimated to 7.8x10^(-3), which is 2.5 times larger than that of our previous report, and SiO2 surface is more suitable for higher (~2 times) immobilization of olfactory receptors than that on Si, leading to 5 times improvement of the sensitivity.
