In biological systems, Cu-containing enzymes have attracted much attention to develop model complexes for the studies of physicochemical properties reactivities. However, model complexes having a tetrahedral Cu(II) structure are very rare. In this study, we synthesized a series of tetrahedral Cu(II) complexes supported by TMG3tach ligand having a labile axial coordination site. Furthermore, redox potential and oxidation ability of these complexes are found to be greatly effected by the axial ligand. Mechanism studies on the oxidation reaction were performed to provide insights into the importance of the tetrahedral geometry in the biological systems.
