The paint area in basketball is generally regarded as a high-value scoring area. However, expected points may vary even within the paint depending on the distance and angle from the basket. This study examined whether shot selection within the paint is aligned with the spatial distribution of expected points, with particular attention to the paint as a possible affordance for action selection. Using play-by-play data from all 1,176 games of the 2024–25 B.LEAGUE season, we visualized two-point shot locations and expected points within the paint by kernel density estimation. The results showed that shot frequency was concentrated near the basket, whereas expected points were distributed more continuously around the rim. Some deeper areas inside the paint were selected relatively often despite lower expected points. These findings suggest that shot selection may be influenced not only by expected points but also by the paint itself as a bounded and visually salient area.
