Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly lethal grade IV brain tumor. Despite standard treatment like surgery, the 5-year survival rate remains only 7.2%. The infiltrative nature of GBM makes complete resection at the cellular level extremely challenging. Due to the Warburg Effect, elevated lactate levels in brain tissue are a key indicator of the presence of cancer cells. A proposed brain-implantable probe aims to help define tumor boundaries during surgery by detecting lactate levels in real-time with high precision.
