Acetone in human breath is an important biomarker for diabetes and other metabolic disorders; however, its low concentration and weak interaction with sensing materials make sensitive detection challenging. Here, a triphenylphosphine (pph3)/iodine (I2) charge-transfer complex is employed to modify monolayer MoS2, enhancing surface reactivity and charge-transfer efficiency toward acetone molecules. The CT-derived ionic species facilitate molecular adsorption and electronic modulation of the MoS2 channel, resulting in substantially improved sensing performance at room temperature. The developed chemo-electronic sensor demonstrates high sensitivity and ppb-level detection capability, highlighting its potential for real-time, non-invasive breath analysis and healthcare diagnostics.
