Copper smelting tailings from Uzbekistan were converted into functional photocatalytic materials by compositing with TiO2. The photocatalytic H₂ evolution performance was systematically evaluated to explore the value-added utilization of metallurgical residues. The calcination conditions, composite ratio, and reaction parameters were optimized to elucidate the effects of tailings-derived phases on interfacial charge transfer in TiO₂-based systems. The optimal photocatalytic activity was achieved at 5 wt% tailings, pH 10.5, and 25°C using triethanolamine as the sacrificial agent, affording an H₂ evolution rate of 22 000 μmol g⁻¹ h⁻¹, which was 1.5 times higher than that of the unoptimized system.
