Ageratum conyzoides (A. conyzoides) is commonly found or deliberately planted in citrus orchards due to its ability to provide habitat and breeding grounds for the natural enemies of citrus pests. In this talk, we develop a switching Huanglongbing (HLB) model by integrating the effects of A. conyzoides, vector preference, and pesticide application intervals on disease transmission. We first establish the definition and numerical calculation method of the basic reproduction number for a general switching compartmental epidemic model. We then demonstrate that the basic reproduction number serves as a threshold parameter characterizing the dynamics of the model. Our numerical results indicate that the recruitment rate of A. conyzoides not only influences the spread speed of HLB but also leads to paradoxical effects. Furthermore, we illustrate how different vector preferences and pesticide spraying periods affect the basic reproduction number.
