Heterogeneous tumor cells carry out diverse roles including the production of cancer growth factors and the establishment of a supportive tumor microenvironment. Given that such tumor behavior could be interpreted as cooperation, there could be defective tumor cells that exploit the cooperative benefits without contributing to tumor growth. These defectors referred to as hypertumors could be used to interrupt tumor cooperation, resulting in autologous regression of the tumor. In this talk, I will present presumptive features of hypertumors, offering intriguing perspectives for both theoreticians and practitioners.
