As a divertor heat sink material beyond ITER, oxide dispersion strengthened Cu alloys (ODS-Cu) is a promising material due to their high temperature strength, irradiation tolerance, and high thermal conductivity. In the previous study, Yttria-stabilized Zirconia (YSZ), an oxide which was not reported in other ODS alloys, were formed finely in Cu matrix. This result suggested the possibility of using YSZ as dispersoids in ODS-Cu.
This research aimed to reveal the effect of YSZ addition on the material properties of ODS-Cu by fabricating Cu-YSZ alloy via mechanical alloying and sintering method. Cu-YSZ showed higher thermal conductivity compared to previously reported ODS-Cu, while the hardness was lower than that. Microstructural observation results will be shared in the session.
