On August of 2023, TEPCO HD started carrying out the release of ALPS treated water. Prior to the release of ALPS treated water, analysis was conducted to confirm the sum of respective concentrations ratio of the 29 nuclides, which includes Se-79 to be less than 1. Se-79 only emits low-energy beta rays, therefore it is necessary to remove interfering nuclides in the sample. The method used by the TEPCO Group involves removing interfering nuclides through multiple separation procedures and measuring the concentration with liquid scintillation counter. The validity of this method for ALPS treated water was confirmed through verification tests with external institutions. This paper includes detailed reports of the study that led to the application of the method.
