Acceptability from neighborhoods is a significant issue when replacing nuclear power plants. Offshore floating nuclear power plants (OFNP) have the potential to improve acceptance. A web survey was conducted for 1,300 residents of prefectures with existing nuclear power plants. The difference between opinions on replacement to land-based nuclear power plants and replacement to OFNP was compared in the survey. The results showed that opposition decreased by approximately 5.6% and support increased by approximately 8.5% for the OFNP option. Focusing on the opposition and support of individuals, approximately 28.8% increased support and approximately 13.3% decreased support. These findings indicate that replacing existing plants with OFNP could enhance acceptance.
