In beam optics simulations, the hard-edge (HE) model for a quad field distribution is generally used to simulate a beam optics. However, actual quads have fringe fields (FF), and the beam size calculated by the HE model may differ from measured beam sizes, which affect the beam operation in some cases. To investigate the effect of the FF of quads on a beam, the FFs of different types of quads were evaluated using a 5 MeV deuteron beam at the IFMIF prototype accelerator (LIPAc). We found that the effect of the FFs is significant for a 5 MeV deuteron beam and also that the measured beam sizes agree with those simulated by the FF model.
