During the compulsory education stages of elementary and junior high schools in Japan, atomic energy literacy is only partially addressed as part of the curriculum in various subjects, such as energy and environmental education. Consequently, most children and students have limited knowledge about nuclear power during this phase of compulsory education. Therefore, this report introduces the implementation of atomic energy literacy using nuclear power as a subject through the utilization of STEAM education methods in the technical and home economics subjects at junior high schools. It not only introduces the contents of classroom practices but also examines how to effectively convey atomic energy literacy to children and students through inquiry-based activities, discussing practical examples in school settings. The report concludes by examining prospects for promoting the dissemination and awareness of atomic energy literacy in future compulsory education stages.
