To ensure safer long-term storage of radioactive waste containers, and detect corrosion on the interior of radioactive waste containers, we investigated the applicability of a non-destructive inspection method using an infrared camera. In this study, we performed cold inspection experiments using an infrared camera for inside radioactive waste containers (200 L steel drum) which have naturally occurring corrosions, identified challenges associated with inspecting corrosion states. Also, to assess the applicability of infrared camera inspection for inside containers storing nuclear materials, we conducted cold inspection experiments on nuclear material containers (2 L stainless cans) simulating internal corrosion, and summarized and evaluated the experiment results.
