[1A12]Fundamental Study on the Dehydration of Slurry Debris Using Magnetic Force

During the cutting of fuel debris in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, radioactive fine particles are generated. To prevent hydrogen generation and container failure caused by residual moisture, it is necessary to reduce the moisture content must be reduced to 0.1-0.2%, which is highly challenging for non-settling particles. This study proposes a new novel method using magnetic forces for the recovery, dewatering, and drying of these particles. In this method, magnetic particles and a flocculant are added to simulated wastewater under hydraulic agitation. Then, a magnet bar is inserted for collection, followed by pump drainage and hot-air drying, As a fundamental study to construct the system, the flocculation performance and drying characteristics of simulated slurry were evaluated using a lab-scale.
