In radioactive waste disposal facilities, low permeability is a key requirement for bentonite-sand mixture as artificial barrier material. To measure the permeability coefficient, laboratory permeability tests are conducted in accordance with "Test methods for permeability of saturated low-permeability materials." When using bentonite-sand mixture specimen that contains aggregates and has a low bentonite mixing ratio, concerns arise regarding the influence of roughness on the specimen's surface on the test results. Therefore, this paper investigates specimen setup methods for laboratory permeability tests using specimens mixed with crushed stone and coarse sand (bentonite content is 15%). Based on the results of comparative tests, we report on an impact on the permeability test results.
