ALPS slurry (carbonate and iron co-precipitate slurries) constitutes a major portion of secondary waste from the water treatment process at Fukushima Daiichi NPS (1F). As stabilization measures take shape, priority is being given to developing management strategies for its storage, treatment, recycle, and disposal. Initial efforts focus on characterizing its properties. Radiologically, Sr-90 dominates, followed by Cs-137. Sr-90 shows a bimodal distribution, likely reflecting changes in upstream treatment. Levels of C-14 and I-129, important for disposal, are presumed to be limited. Chemically, the slurry consists of carbonates and iron hydroxides from coagulation-sedimentation, and some batches exhibit high salinity due to early seawater use. Characterization is ongoing and will be updated.
