<strong>Noninvasive Induction of a Torpor-like Hypometabolic State through Ultrasound Stimulation of the Hypothalamus</strong>

Mammals are "homeotherms," maintaining their body temperature in a very narrow range around 37°C. If their body temperature changes even a few degrees outside this range, physiological functions immediately collapse, disrupting systemic homeostasis and causing irreversible damage. In some animal species, however, body temperature and metabolism are actively reduced, triggering "hibernation or torpor" in the harsh winter environment when the body's heat production source is unavailable. Most hibernation research to date has been limited to observational descriptions, and most of the physiological functions and mechanisms of hibernation and torpor remain unresolved. In this symposium, researchers from various fields will present the latest findings on hibernation and torpor, biological mechanisms, and discuss the future direction of hibernation biology.
