TC209 Workshop on Geotechnics for Offshore Wind

The Japanese National Committee of TC209, established within the Japanese Geotechnical Society, has been working to promote the international exchange of knowledge in geotechnics for offshore wind energy, as well as to facilitate interaction among researchers and practitioners from Japan and abroad.

The International Workshop on Geotechnics for Offshore Wind held in 2023 provided an opportunity to share recent developments, particularly from Europe, together with research and practical challenges in Japan. The workshop served as a forum where domestic and international stakeholders gathered to exchange information and discuss geotechnical issues related to offshore wind, thereby contributing to mutual understanding and the promotion of collaboration.

Building on these efforts, the Japanese National Committee of TC209 will organize the Second International Workshop as a continuation of this initiative.

The second workshop will focus on sharing recent research trends and knowledge gained from practical offshore wind projects in the field of geotechnics, and on discussing future technical challenges and perspectives. Topics to be addressed are expected to include site investigation and ground modeling, optimization of foundation design, cyclic and seismic design, floating offshore wind, anchors and subsea cables, pile installation and constructability, and the relationship between port development and offshore wind energy. Through discussions based on domestic and international case studies, the workshop aims to provide a forum for exchanging knowledge and perspectives that are valuable to both research and engineering practice.
