2026 Annual Meeting of Japan Association of Mineralogical Sciences (JAMS)

Announcing of JAMS 2026 Annual Meeting

2026 LOC Chair: Hiroyuki Kagi (The University of Tokyo)

We are pleased to announce that the 2026 Annual Meeting and General Assembly of the Japan Association of Mineralogical Sciences (JAMS) will be held at the Hongo Campus of the University of Tokyo. The meeting returns to the University of Tokyo after an interval of eleven years, and several new initiatives are being planned.
First, thanks to a generous donation supporting online streaming of the meeting, all sessions will be conducted in a hybrid format, combining in-person presentations with online participation via Zoom. We aim to encourage active discussion at the venue while also allowing participants to join online from anywhere.
In addition, a joint session with the Volcanological Society of Japan is planned. This session will be conducted by connecting online with their meeting, which will be held at Yamagata University during the same period, thereby promoting interdisciplinary exchange across related fields.
Furthermore, a special exhibition on biominerals will be held at the University Museum during the meeting period. The museum houses important collections that have contributed to the development of mineralogy in Japan, including the Wakabayashi and Wada mineral collections. We warmly encourage participants to visit the exhibition during breaks between sessions.
While many academic societies of similar size are facing a decline in membership, the JAMS has seen a gradual increase in its membership. Mineralogical science extends beyond Earth and planetary sciences and maintains strong connections with a wide range of related disciplines. We hope that this meeting will provide opportunities for new encounters and stimulating discussions, leading to further developments in the field.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to the meeting.
