The 39th Annual Conference of the Japanese Association for South Asian Studies

Message from the Host

The 39th JASAS Annual Conference will be held on 19 and 20 September 2026 at Fukuoka Convention Center.

This year's conference is a new attempt, as it will be held in rented non-university facilities for the entire two-day period. Although this will incur additional expenses, it is a measure to avoid concentrating the burden on members who belong to specific universities in large cities. By keeping the executive committee small, it will also be possible to gain new know-how for running a conference.

Instead of the traditional "common topic" (where researchers from multiple fields give presentations under a common theme), we invite Professor Kawamura Yuto to give a special lecture in the afternoon of the second day (his works include "Speech and Magical Power: Unraveling Vedic Mythology" and "The Etymology of God's Names"). We hope that members studying modern society will take this opportunity to listen to the excellent research results of Indian classics.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Fukuoka.
