The 36th JASID Annual Conference

Field Training Program (Excursion) Announcement

The 36th Annual Conference of the Japan Society for International Development (JASID) will organize a field training program (excursion) on Sunday, November 30, 2025, with two options to visit areas in Hiroshima, each including the World Heritage site.

<Purpose>

In 2025, marking the 80 years after the end of World War II, the 36th JASID Annual Conference will feature on the theme of “Opening Prospects for Peace and Development – A Dialogue Towards the Future”.

We have planned two options, both of which are important in thinking about peace and the future from the field in Hiroshima. One is Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and the other is Miyajima. Both are well-known World Heritage sites, but we have added a special meaning: to be expose to the feelings and views of Hiroshima, and to share them among intergenerational participants and local people. Time of the program is short, but we hope your experience will be a memorable one that will stay deep in your heart for a long time into the future.

Date: Sunday, November 30, 2025
Meeting point: around the bus stop Daigaku-Kaikan Mae (near Mirai Crea)
Meeting time: 12:00 (noon) Please proceed to the spot as soon as the Plenary ends.

<Option 1>

“Feel the feelings of Hiroshima for peace with your entire body” A half-day Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park course (Max Capacity 35 people)

Wars and conflicts never end in the world, and some country leaders even imply at the possible use of nuclear weapons. “Feeling” what happened in Hiroshima and the footpath after that, and rethinking the meaning of peace today will offer an opportunity to rethink the meaning of development. This option will first visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, followed by the talk by a new generation successor of the Atomic bomb survivors’ stories. This is one of Hiroshima efforts not to lose experiences in the face of aging A-bomb survivors. Then, a volunteer guide will show around the Peace Memorial Park.

Itinerary:

  • 12:10 Depart Hiroshima University by bus (lunch box will be provided on the bus)
  • 13:20 Arrive at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum(with self-audio guide)
  • 14:20 A talk of an A-bomb experience successor at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Hall for the A-Bomb Victims
  • 15:30 A volunteer guide to walk around Peace Memorial Park
  • 17:00 Dismiss on site(about 40 mins. to JR Hiroshima Stn. by bus or tram)

<Option 2>

“To think about peace from the history and culture” A half-day Miyajima course (Max Capacity 40 people)

You may know Miyajima is a World Heritage site. However, the significance of this World Heritage lies in the integration of the original nature of the divine Mt. Misen which surrounds the man-made beauty of the Itsukushima Shrine with its Great Gate on the sea. Moreover, the Peace Flame in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is transmitted from the Eternal Flame of Mt. Misen, which offer a remarkable unity of culture and our wish for peace. Through this option, we would like you to experience and understand Miyajima in a different way usual tourists will do, led by a volunteer guide with rich local knowledge.

Itinerary:

  • 12:10 Depart Hiroshima University by bus (lunch box will be provided on the bus)
  • 13:30 Arrive at the parking of Miyajima-Guchi
  • 14:00 Take a ferry to Miyajima,  A volunteer guide to walk you around Miyajima, followed by a self-guided touring
