The purpose of this session is to understand how the new curriculum guidelines for primary and lower secondary schools are changing the way Earth and planetary science is handled from the old curriculum guidelines, based on textbook analysis, and to discuss how Earth and planetary science education in primary and lower secondary schools should be in the future and how it can be improved. In this session, we will focus on natural disaster education in particular, analyzing the treatment of natural disasters in primary and lower secondary school science and social studies textbooks, and discussing class practices for natural disaster education across subjects under the new Courses of Study.
