The reverse water-gas shift reaction activity of iron carbide catalysts (Fe3C, Fe5C2) with different crystal structures was investigated under atmospheric pressure. Fe3C exhibited a higher CO generation rate than Fe5C2 and iron oxide, which mainly consists of Fe3O4. The comparison of activation energies suggested that the reaction mechanisms were different for the two iron carbide catalysts. Furthermore, it was found that the effect of pressure was also significantly different for the two iron carbide catalysts.
