[2B19]Cis specific ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclic olefins by (arylimido)vanadium-alkylidene complex catalysts

Ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of cyclic olefinsusing fluorinated alkoxide modified (arylimido)vanadium-alkylidene catalysts, V(N-2,6-X2C6H3)(CHSiMe3)[OC(CF3)3](L) [X = F, Cl; L = PMe3 or NHC; NHC = 1,3-bis-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-imidazol-2-ylidene], have been explored. The resultant ring opened polymers possessed high cis selectivities, but the specificity was affected by both the arylimido and the neutral ligand (PMe3 or NHC) employed. In this paper, synthesis of various complexes and the ligand effect toward both the activity and the selectivity will be introduced in detail.
