Countermeasures against drift flow in the catalyst bed are important for safe and stable operation of trickle bed reactors. Among them, modification of the inlet structure is a useful direct countermeasure, but it is difficult to predict the effect in advance. Therefore, in this study, the effects of reactor inlet structure and diffuser geometry on the liquid diffusion state in the catalyst bed were simulated by computational fluid dynamics analysis. As a result, it was estimated that the installation of perforated plates and baffle plates and the increase of diffuser opening were effective in mitigating the drift flow.
