Modulation of CO2 capture/release mode by photo energy enables the concentration of CO2 with lower energy consumption. We have already reported the mode modulation by the combination of photochromic spiropyran and polar-gradient reaction field fabricated within the interlayer of montmorillonite clay minerals. However, only one-third of spiropyran could act as CO2 capture site. To overcome this problem, higher-order topological reaction fields were created by using nano-sized Laponite cray minerals, and CO2 capturing ability by spiropyran significantly enhanced depending on the topology of the reaction field.
