The increase in CO2 levels has been identified as a significant contributor to climate change, particularly global warming. Therefore, considerable efforts have been devoted by scientists to develop CO2 converting method into useful chemicals. We recently reported an efficient synthesis method of dialkyl carbonates (DRC) from CO2 and tetraalkyl orthosilicate in the presence of tetraalkoxy zirconium (Zr(OR)4) as the catalyst. Herein, we report our new zirconium-grafted heterogeneous catalysts for DRC synthesis, in which ceria-coated silica (CeO2/SiO2) support played an important role not only in enhancing the catalytic activity of Zr(OEt)4 but also in preventing catalyst deactivation.
