For lubricating base oil synthesis, olefin oligomerization was examined using transition metal complexes composed of pyridinediimine type ligand. The oligomerization reaction was finally carried out at roughly 10-kilogram scale. Then, various grades of lubricating base oil were obtained from the oligomer, following hydroisomerization and distillation. The base oil exhibited high viscosity index as well as excellent physical properties such as low temperature fluidity.
