Supported Au catalysts exhibit high activity and selectivity for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol (CH3OH) at lower temperatures (< 473 K). We reported that both the CH3OH formation rates in CO2 hydrogenation and hydrogen dissociation rate in the H2-D2 exchange reaction depend on the particle size and electronic state of Au nanoparticles (NPs). Moreover, for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, the hydrogenation of the formate intermediate has been proposed to be the rate-determining step. In this study, to get insight into hydrogen activation on supported Au catalysts, the activity for OH-D2 exchange and the formation rate of OD species were investigated.
