Fire accidents in petroleum refining facilities can escalate due to high temperatures, high pressures, and the presence of flammable materials. This presentation describes a fire incident in an asphalt shipping facility, focusing on the mechanism by which oil absorbed into insulation materials led to ignition. The study also examines contributing factors such as gasket deterioration, temperature fluctuations, and piping stress. Based on these findings, important considerations for preventing similar incidents are discussed, with emphasis on proper equipment design, condition monitoring, and maintenance practices to enhance operational safety.
