Ashino Onsen, located along the old Oshu Kaido road, is a non-recirculating hot spring (free-flowing spring water: water temperature 45.0℃, flow rate 100ℓ/min). However, after the water emerges, exposure to air alters the active ingredients (aging of the hot spring water), causing it to lose its efficacy. Therefore, at Ashino Onsen, the bath attendant works daily with an analytical institution to analyze the radon content and the amount of various metal ions using gas chromatography and ion chromatography. They also adjust several springs to maintain the publicly announced values for the spring water. Furthermore, research is being conducted on the medical knowledge of hot spring components and their effects.
