This study aims to efficiently produce petrochemical feedstocks from waste plastics through chemical recycling, one of the promising approaches for plastic recycling. To improve fluidity and facilitate the removal of contaminants, waste plastics were melted in a hydrocarbon solvent and subsequently subjected to catalytic degradation. Beta zeolite was employed as the catalyst, and alkali treatment was applied to enhance its catalytic activity. Tetralin was used as the solvent, and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a representative polyolefin, was selected as the feedstock. Catalyst synthesis conditions for achieving higher activity were investigated by comparing plastic conversion and product distributions under various reaction conditions.
