In this study, alumina-supported hydrotalcite-derived CuMgFe catalysts (CuMgFe-HT/Al2O3) were developed for direct CO2 Fischer–Tropsch (FT) synthesis. We previously reported that these catalysts form highly dispersed multimetallic species and exhibit higher CO2 conversion and FT synthesis activity than both unsupported CuMgFe-HT and conventionally impregnated catalysts. In the present work, the effects of catalyst composition, particularly the Cu/Fe ratio and Mg content, on the structure of the resulting multimetallic species were investigated. Furthermore, the relationship between the state of these metal species and the catalytic performance for CO2 hydrogenation is discussed.
