Annealing Ag thin film deposited on Ge (111) results in the formation of germanene, a monolayer honeycomb lattice of Ge. We carried out in-situ Raman spectroscopy and revealed that Ge atoms formed sp3-Ge structure at first, lost the crystalline structure at 520℃, and formed germanene after the rapid cooling to room temperature. We will discuss the details of the germanene growth mechanism in the presentation.
