When a large shear rate is suddenly applied to a particle dispersion with uniform particle size, the dispersion exhibit shear-thickening phenomena. We calculated the time-series changes in the X-ray small-angle scattering pattern of the dispersion during the development of the shear-thickening using Stokes dynamics method considering the hydrodynamic interactions and the repulsive forces and the contact friction forces between particle surfaces. By comparing the simulation results and experimental ones, we visualized the process of collapsing of the layered arrangement of particles in the dispersion caused by shear thickening and verified the importance of the contact friction forces for the viscosity.
