Exosomes (Extracellular vesicles: Evs) included in the body fluids work as a communication tool between cells and can predict risk affected by a disease in future. Small Evs with φ100 nm are difficult to be observed with conventional optical microscopy. Therefore, in our laboratory, fluorescently labeled Evs (pre-labeling) was observed as bright spots with a plasmon-field enhanced fluorescence microscopy. In this study, fluorescence-labeled antibody was added to Evs captured with a plasmonic chip (post-labeling) and single Evs were observed under the fluorescence microscope.
