We have been conducting research to elucidate the pathology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) from the viewpoint of the chemical properties of accumulated lipids using Raman scattering microscopy. In this study, we applied Brillouin scattering microscopy, which can extract information on the mechanical properties of an object, to imaging fat droplets in liver tissue to obtain information on a more macroscopic scale, and succeeded in visualizing the differences in physical properties between fat droplets accumulated in liver tissue and surrounding hepatocytes.
