We focused on polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a carbon source and developed TiO2 nanoparticles with high photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. Last year, we reported that the photodegradability of anatase/rutile mixed crystal TiO2 nanoparticles (A/R-TiO2 NPs) improved by about two times after high pressure annealing at a low temperature of 300 ℃ with a PEG mixture ratio of 30%. In the present study, we elucidated the enhancement mechanism of the photocatalytic activity of A/R-TiO2 NPs annealed with PEG at a low temperature using XPS analysis. In particular, we discuss the carbon impurity doping in TiO2.
